The "short" vowels of English

English is very treacherous. if the word is changed a little, and not to pronounce the vowel in the same way, no longer speaks with her "name" but with another sound.

However, when twin consonants in the word, the vowel goes before the double consonant is pronounced like the English name of the letter but with the vowel sound "short" also just learned in the previous post.

Then the word "written" is not pronounced with the sound of "i" of the word "write" but is pronounced with another vowel, the "short."

addition, other forms of the same original word is pronounced with the short vowel (NOT the "long", ie the name of the vowel.)

But in this, the English would have mercy because he observes the rule. If there is no final "e" silent or mute the sound of the vocal writing is changed and is pronounced with the short vowel.

See the following table and then practice listening and recording. The first column shows the original word, the second showing another form of the same word with double consonants, and the third column presents yet another form of the same word without the final "e".

The first column words are pronounced with the vowel "long" (the name of the letter)
